Description of the Agency
ETC is a non-profit,
volunteer based organization that provides wilderness and environmental
education experiences for people of all abilities, including people with
special needs. The organization's primary goal is to provide access to the
wilderness to people of all abilities and to promote self-esteem,
self-sufficiency, and a greater appreciation for the environment. Description of PositionField interns will assist and/or guide whitewater
rafting trips and outdoor activities and games, aid in logistical planning,
coordination of volunteers, program development, maintenance of the site and
repair of equipment. Our site is
on the South Fork of the American River twenty minutes north of Placerville,
California. All field interns live at our American River camp in cozy open air outdoor shelters which are provided.
Training
á
Training will
begin with a pre-trip meeting held
on March 11th in San Francisco, Fort Mason Center, Room TBA.
á
River Guide
Training Dates will be held the evening of Friday March 26th through April 4th.
á A mandatory Disability
Awareness Training will be
held May 22nd – 23rd
at our American River camp grounds.
Availability: Summer, June-August/September 2010.
Compensation: Disability Awareness Training, Swift Water Rescue training, Room and
Board plus a small stipend ($400/ month).

Guide school (regularly $400) is free to interns and it is mandatory. Can you attend guide school, check for this yearŐs training dates?

Please describe; 1) any relevant experience or training you have had in teaching/guiding/counseling/leadership; 2) any courses such as Outward Bound or NOLS that you have taken or taught, or; 3) any significant personal expeditions or experiences you have accomplished aside from formal training's (use separate sheet if necessary).
Do you have any special knowledge/skills/interest that you could share with our participants (biology, ecology, geology, anthropology, etc.)?
What hobbies, avocations are you involved in that would contribute positively to an ETC trip (i.e. do you play a musical instrument, sing, play new games, etc?)?
