Sea Kayaking Field Intern
Description of the Agency
ETC is a non-profit organization
that provides accessible wilderness and environmental education experiences for
people with disabilities and youth. The organization's primary goal is to
provide access to the wilderness to people of all abilities and to promote
self-esteem, self-sufficiency, and a greater appreciation for the environment.
Description of Position
Field: The Sea Kayak field
intern will be trained to staff one, two, and three day sea kayak trips for
people with disabilities and low income youth. The intern must be available to
work 3 weekdays (Mon – Fri) a week, and be available overnight
trips. The Sea Kayak Field Intern will work under the supervision of the
Sea Kayak Program Manager.
Administrative: The intern will
very occasionally work in the office on office projects including follow up to
trips, record keeping, and communication with volunteers.
Qualifications Desired:
We are looking for a person who has
a desire to develop outdoor leadership skills; and is enthusiastic about
working with youth and adults with special needs. Experience as a
volunteer or staff with youth programs or special needs programs or
environmental education is desired but not necessary. Kayaking experience is
not necessary, but would be welcomed. Environmental education experience is
highly desired, but not necessary.
Term
The Fall Internship Dates are
September 11 – October 31. Exact start date may be flexible.
You must be able to work the following dates, plus two more dates that
will be added as scheduled: 9/14, 9/19, 9/21, 9/26, 9/28, 10/5, 10/10-11
(overnight), 10/17-10/18 (overnight).
Compensation
Sea Kayak Guide Training
$500 for 12 days of trips. (If we add more trips to our schedule, it may
be possible to expand the workdays and compensation.
Access to discounted prodeals for outdoor equipment.
