Dan (he/him) Hailing from New Zealand, Dan grew up surrounded by rivers, mountains, and coastlines that sparked a lifelong love of adventure. Those early experiences shaped his belief that the outdoors can be a powerful space for growth, connection, and belonging. After earning a Diploma in Outdoor Pursuits, Dan began his career guiding on New Zealand’s pristine rivers and teaching in outdoor education programs. He holds NZOIA Instructor Certifications in sea kayaking, whitewater kayaking, and rock, as well as NZRA rafting (IV–V), swift-water rescue and WFR certifications. His journey eventually brought him to California, where he continued guiding on all three forks of the American River and discovered a deep connection to the bay areas vibrant outdoor community. For five seasons, Dan led ETC’s River Program with enthusiasm, care, and a strong commitment to inclusion on and off the water. He now serves as ETC’s Program Director, supporting programs that make the outdoors more welcoming and accessible for all!
